THE ROAD TO BECOMING A CPA
- Simone Schimpf, CPA Student
I have been employed with BVA for almost 3 years, first working as a co-op student while I was finishing my University degree, and then as a CPA student where I worked towards attaining my CPA designation.
One of my favourite parts about BVA is the fantastic work place culture. The firm prides itself on community involvement and is dedicated to making sure they have a positive impact on our community. Volunteering is a big part of firm culture, and the staff are given a paid work day to volunteer and make an impact on our community. Social events are also important to BVA which ensures that staff members make memories together. My favourite part about working for the firm is the fun and friendly atmosphere that they promote; all of the members of the staff feel like family and are really invested in your well-being.
BVA also has a mentor program where you and a CPA are matched together and they are there to guide you throughout the CPA program and provide ongoing feedback at work. My mentor is always available to answer my questions and has assisted me throughout my entire CFE summer to ensure I was on the right track. Each person at BVA has an open-door policy and is always willing to answer any questions you may have no matter what time of the day.
BVA has the advantage of offering a variety of work, a fun atmosphere, dedication to the community and a close-knit group of staff. BVA offers a small firm atmosphere but also has the advantages of a big firm such as work variety and vast learning opportunities. When working at BVA not only do you get to work with a group of skilled professionals, you also gain a second family. I am so happy with my decision to work for BVA, and feel they have been crucial to my success as a young professional.
